On our way to a climate-neutral business

Since 2022, MedNet is certified by Climate Extender as a carbon neutral company. Carbon neutral indicates that a company first reduces its emissions and balances out the remaining amount by investing in clean energy, using energy more efficiently, or supporting projects that protect the climate. To achieve that, MedNet used a CO2 footprint calculator according to DIN EN ISO 14064-1 and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG) Corporate Accounting Standard. With this calculator, MedNet was able to analyse its entire business operations, including among others:

  • emissions
  • energy consumption
  • cargo
  • purchased goods and services
  • water usage
  • waste from office buildings
  • business travel
  • commute

Internal Climate Project Management

To collect and evaluate emission data and to develop and implement measures for emission reduction MedNet has founded a project team led by Dr. Silke Flotho-Westrup, Regulatory Affairs Manager at MedNet. In a continuous effort, the project team develops and implements measures to reduce emissions such as the use of green electricity, purchasing carbon neutral electrical equipment, offering a job bike, home office days or carbon neutral transport.

Our Supported Projects 2024

The climate protection projects chosen by MedNet not only support a number of the UN goals for sustainable development but also boost the economic growth and improve the living conditions for the people on site. 

Biodiversity conservation, Brazil

The project is located within the Amazon, the largest remaining rainforest on our planet. Key project activities involve training in forest and biodiversity monitoring, community organization, legal land ownership for conservation, gaining land use rights, agroforestry techniques and sustainable business development. The project promotes sustainable development by creating jobs in forest management, providing training, and supporting critical biodiversity habitats.

New run-of-river hydroelectric power project, Peru

The project aims to generate renewable electricity by using water from the Chancay river and supply this energy to the National Interconnected Electric Grid (SEIN). Anticipated to operate for a minimum of 40 years, the Las Pizarras Project is poised to make a significant impact on sustainable electricity generation. Furthermore, the power plant is expected to mitigate environmental impact by averting the emission of 68,132 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2e) annually.

Solar energy plant, India

The objective of the project is the generation of electrical energy through the operation of photovoltaic solar panels which then will be exported to the Indian power grid. Consequently, the project will contribute to displacing an equivalent amount of electricity that would otherwise have originated from the prevailing fossil fuel-based electricity grid.

Renewable energy fueled by poultry litter, India

The project involves installing a capacity generator to burn poultry and biomass waste that will be collected from local farms. By feeding into the grid, the project substitutes electricity generated from fossil fuels, thus avoiding the associated emissions. Prior to the project, litter from the local poultry industry was dumped in landfill pits near the farms, which resulted in methane being released freely into the atmosphere.  Therefore, the project helps to avoid these additional methane emissions. As the poultry litter is collected instead of being left to decay in open fields, the sanitary conditions as well as the living conditions are improved for the surrounding local villages.
